Marijuana
and Girl Scout cookies seem an unlikely mix. But a young Girl Scout
entrepreneur in San Francisco sold 117 boxes in just two hours on the street
outside a legal marijuana dispensary. Perhaps inspired by her example, another
Girl Scout set up shop similarly in Colorado. But the organization in Colorado
effectively barred her from doing so. Their objection? They felt that a
marijuana dispensary was not “an appropriate place for girls to be selling
cookies in Colorado."
It
makes us wonder how experts in consultative selling training would react to
this situation. The California scout was certainly very successful…a persuasive
point for those in sales. But the key decision about where to sell for those of
us in the business world should be…where can we best find our target market?
And how can we best connect with those who want to buy our stuff?
The
question for Girl Scout cookie sellers who want to make some dough is who
really wants to buy their cookies. Time
for a market survey?
